40 WILD & WONDERFUL YEARS CELEBRATION
Aldergrove – Just a week away starts the 3 day celebration planned at the Greater Vancouver Zoo for our “40 Wild & Wonderful Years” anniversary celebration!
The 3 day event begins on August 20th at 11 am with several esteemed guests from the City of Langley, Township of Langley, Leq’a:mel First Nations and one of the original owners of the Zoo to assist with the official opening and cake cutting ceremony. And each day throughout the weekend we have a variety of fun activities to offer guests of all ages including visits from the Abbotsford Heat, Langley Chiefs, Langley Fire Department, McDonald’s Restaurants, Old Spaghetti Factory, several musical guests including The Drum Café plus…games, face painting, giveaways, you will learn about our history and special tours (behind the scenes, through our new compost facility and the animal food preparation area). In addition we have some our radio partner’s onsite to keep us all going - 93.7 JR FM, 95.3 Virgin Radio and AM 650 CISL.
And let’s not forget the 40 Wild & Wonderful Years Contest, free ticket upon paid admission and you can enter to win a variety of amazing prizes including the Grand Prize a 2011 Toyota Camry Hybrid and other prizes such as: an Alaskan Cruise, trips to Disneyworld, San Diego and much more. Since the humble beginnings of just a few animals when the zoo was initially registered as the World Wide Game Farm Ltd. and officially opened on August 20th 1970 to today, the Greater Vancouver Zoo has over 600 different animals (135 species) and our main focus is on further enhancements to our animal habitats, conservation efforts, education and all environmental aspects.
