ZOO RECEIVES CAZA ACCREDITATION
Aldergrove – We are thrilled to announce that the Greater Vancouver Zoo has complied with all aspects of the CAZA Accreditation process and has fully demonstrated that it meets the requirements for accreditation. Accordingly its application has been approved by the CAZA Accreditation Commission.
“We are very pleased to welcome Greater Vancouver Zoo back to full membership in the Canadian Association of Zoos and Aquariums”, said National Director Bill Peters. “This means that the Greater Vancouver Zoo will be participating in the important work of conservation, research and education, and playing a full role in this year’s priority – the international amphibian rescue program”.
The Canadian Association of Zoos and Aquariums has a comprehensive and demanding set of standards that apply to all aspects of the operations of a zoo or aquarium, and these standards must be met by all facilities applying for membership in the association. CAZA’s accreditation standards were thoroughly reviewed and updated two years ago, and are now among the toughest in the world.
CAZA’s Accreditation Commission is responsible for administering these standards, and all applicants must provide a complete set of documentation to the Commission, followed by a detailed on-site inspection by a team of CAZA experts.
CAZA was formed in 1975 as a national, not-for-profit organization. It is the national voice of the zoo and aquarium community in Canada. Representing the leading zoological parks and aquariums, its purpose is to promote the welfare of animals and encourage the advancement of conservation, education, and science.
