GREATER VANCOUVER ZOO - PRESS RELEASE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

QUARTERS FOR CONSERVATION AT THE GREATER VANCOUVER ZOO

Aldergrove – This month we are officially launching our new program called “Quarters for Conservation”. At Greater Vancouver Zoo we are increasing our commitment to conservation, by stepping it up a notch to support exciting “field conservation” projects from around the globe.

And what is even more fun and fulfilling is that our “valued guests” will have a vote as to which worthy project they are interested in helping out!  At each visit, guests will receive a “token” and then will go to our conservation stations, where each project is described. The guest will select the project of their choice that has inspired them the most and deposit the token in a spiral wishing well.

The Zoo has selected the following 3 worthy projects to devote all conservation fundraising efforts for this year:

·    The Iranian Cheetah Project (Panthera, International Wild Cat Conservation)
·    The Guatemalan Yellow-naped Amazon parrot (ARCAS – Wildlife Rescue & Conservation Association)
·    The Indian Hornbill Nest Adoption Program (Nature Conservation Foundation – India)

Major threats for these projects include: habitat loss, habitat degradation, poaching, hunting and deforestation to name a few.

The funding is provided to these conservation projects in part through the admission price of and $0.25 from each admission fee and $2.50 from each membership pass. Additional votes and donations can be made directly at the conservation station’s spiral wishing wells. What a fun way to support conservation!
