Greater Vancouver Zoo – PRESS RELEASE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
RBC BLUE WATER PROJECT VOLUNTEERS HELP AT THE GREATER VANCOUVER ZOO
Aldergrove – Starting at 10 am on Friday June 10th the Zoo is pleased to welcome volunteers from the Murrayville and Aldergrove RBC branches to raise awareness of the RBC Blue Water Project and to lend a hand to clean up the Salmon River that runs through the Greater Vancouver Zoo.
A friendly “Leo the Lion” mascot will be circulating around the zoo for the kids and creating a fun atmosphere. Also an RBC Rain Barrel will also be on-site and zoo visitors will have a chance to win the Rain Barrel, so they can take a role in responsible water use with collecting their own rain water.
The RBC Blue Water Project is an innovative, 10 year, global commitment to help protect the world’s most precious natural resource: fresh water. People are starting to realize that water truly is one of the earth's most precious resources. For instance, in a recent poll, more than half of Canadians said water is even more precious than oil. 1
Did you know?
· One drop of oil can make up to 25 litres of water undrinkable. 2
· One teaspoon of weed killer can contaminate enough drinking water to fill 20 Olympic-sized swimming pools. 3
· In Canada, dirty drinking water causes about 90,000 cases of illness and 90 deaths each year. 4
Further information on the excellent work and commitment that RBC is doing to help with water conservation and education can be obtained by viewing their website at http://bluewater.rbc.com
